The Magic of the Film Camera
Taking photos just like 120 years ago.
In an age when images are captured every second, conscious, slow, and careful photography is regaining its importance.
That’s exactly where this 2-day workshop comes in. Together with Alfred von Waldkirch, we’ll return to a form of photography where nothing happens by accident. Every step requires attention—from setting up the camera to choosing the frame and pressing the shutter, all the way through developing the negative and creating the finished cyanotype. This way, you’ll experience the entire photographic process from capture to finished image and discover just how much craftsmanship, precision, and care go into every single step.
It’s about precision, observation, patience, and the conscious decision to capture a single image. Instead of taking hundreds of shots, photography once again becomes a craft.
With large-format plate cameras, you work almost exactly as people did 120 years ago and discover just how much concentration, precision, and calm can go into a single photograph.

The workshop is designed for anyone who wants to experience photography in a completely different way—for people who are curious about analog photography, interested in the traditional craft of photography, or actively seeking a contrast to fast-paced digital photography.
No prior knowledge of photography is required. Alfred will guide you step by step through the entire process, from the basics and how to operate the large-format camera, through taking the photograph, to developing the negative and creating the cyanotype.
Even for experienced photographers, the workshop offers an opportunity to slow down their own way of seeing and to experience photography anew from the ground up.
