FRIENDS

Since its inception, the IPFO has been attended and supported by people from the photography industry—some of whom still make a point of traveling to the festival to this day. Through their exhibitions, lectures, jury service at PHOTOVILLE4600, their guidance during portfolio reviews, or simply through their friendly presence in Olten, they have become close friends of our team and our institution.

The stories that have come out of it will never be forgotten: Dan Winters has attended every edition of the festival since 2017 and especially looks forward to swimming in the Aare. It’s not uncommon for him to help stack chairs, roll up tarps, or put away barriers at the end of the festival.

In 2017, we also had the rare opportunity to take a call—a conversation with astronauts on the ISS. Ron Beinner also caused quite a stir when he borrowed a team member’s bike, rode it across the square, and nearly got lost on the streets of Olten.

It’s also unforgettable how, in 2023, Bryan Adams—accompanied only by a driver—parked on the Schützenmatte, strolled unrecognized through Olten’s old town, visited his exhibition at the Haus der Fotografie, and left with the words: “It’s quite nice here.”
